Political terrorism is a perpetual threat for modern expats

The ongoing risk to Foreign Service community
in high risk areas of the world

Washington D.C., 9th April. David Turkaleski, Director of Commercial Insurance at Clements Worldwide, the leading provider of international insurance solutions, reacts to the perpetual threat of political terrorism and K&R in high risk areas such as Iraq and Afghanistan:

“With the death of the U.S. ambassador to Libya still a recent memory and on Monday five more including a diplomat, killed in a terrorist attack, the risk to these people’s lives has never been more imposing. As political and social turmoil in the Middle East and North Africa worsens, the Foreign Service community is confronted with unique and unanticipated complications. Seemingly, not a week goes by without a threat or an actual attack taking place, putting those working in high-risk areas such as Iraq and Afghanistan in harm’s way. Terrorism isn’t the only threat to employee welfare- during civil unrest and political instability, members of the diplomatic community may get caught in the chaos. They risk being injured, kidnapped or trapped inside the country. This unceasing turmoil is a top-of-mind issue for any international organization or community operating in such volatile environments.”
